CHI Career Assessment
Services offers a range of career assessment services to
meet the needs of the individual. Through careful review of referral
information and consultation with the referral source and the participant,
we select among the various types of services.
These services include:
- Screening: An initial assessment that provides
information on interests, academic skills or transferrable skills
for further career planning.
- Focused Assessment: A targeted assessment of
one or two of the individual's career interest areas to determine
the individual's aptitude and potential for success.
- Community Based Assessment: Assessment of work-related
behaviors and skills on job sites within the community.
- Comprehensive Career Assessment: A detailed
assessment of the individual's career interests, temperaments
and preferences, employability skills, career awareness, learning
style, communication and instruction following skills, academic
and intellectual abilities, physical capacities, dexterity and
motor coordination skills, work skills and work behaviors. The
comprehensive career assessment process exposes the individual
to a wide range of career alternatives through "hands-on"
assessment of work skills and extensive career exploration.
- Itemized Assessment: Administration of one
or two individual assessment tools to answer particular questions
posed by the referral source. These questions are generally very
specific such as determining typing speed or reading comprehension
skills.
The Assessment Process
The assessment is a learning experience. The participant learns about
himself, his interests and abilities as well as career and local labor
market information. The assessment specialist learns about the participant
- his unique abilities, interests, and personal characteristics. Information
from a variety of sources is integrated to gain a cohesive picture
of the individual. This enables the provision of appropriate career
guidance and the selection of viable career choices.
A detailed but concise report is written to explain the
assessment process and results. Highlighted in this report are:
The individual's strengths and needs, Specific career recommendations,
and
Resources available to the individual to achieve the stated goals.
A meeting is held following the assessment to explain the results
to the referral source and participant and to commence career planning.
What makes CHI Career Assessment Services Unique?
Teams of CHI Centers' workers are available to assist you with short-term
projects completed at your location. This might be a large mailing,
dismantling and shredding of documents, or assembly of folders/kits
for a conference or meeting. The team is accompanied by a staff
member who supervises the team and provides quality assurance.
- The assessment process is tailored to the individual through
development and implementation of an individualized assessment
plan.
- "Hands on" techniques are utilized to provide reliable
information on work skills.
- The Internet is used with program participants for career exploration
and job seeking.
- Thorough research is completed to identify appropriate employment
resources and/or training programs for participants.
- On-going program evaluation enables CHI to determine program
effectiveness. In 2002, recommendations were followed in more
