About the Recreation
Program
CHI Centers Recreation Program is based on the belief that people
with developmental disabilities are entitled to participate in the
same life experiences as others. The therapeutic recreation program
offers participants a chance to enjoy leisure time activities, new
experiences and opportunities.
These services include:
The Small Group Recreation program:
1) provides after-work leisure time experience
2) groups of up to 8 participants
3) dinning out, sports, movies, theater, bowling and sightseeing
Special Activities (planned) -
the aerobic classes
1) participants can exercise for up to 45 minutes one day a week
2) taught by an American Council on Exercise certified instructor
Special Event Recreation
Every month a special event is planned that is open to all program
participants. Examples of these special events are trips to Ringling
Bros., Barnum and Baileys Circus and Christmas shopping trips. At
Christmas time last year, participants shopped for family and friends
and then took a tour of the Botanical Gardens.
Milton Lodge Vacation Program: provides participants
a summer vacation at a beach resort. The Milton Lodge is a barrier-free
summer vacation house located in Milton, Delaware. Activities include
visits to Rehoboth Beach and its boardwalk, a Rehoboth/ Lewes cruise,
movies, shopping, dancing and sightseeing. Each year sees an increased
demand for the Milton Lodge program including new vacationers making
their first visit to Milton Lodge. The Recreation Program was expanded
this year to allow for year-round staffing. With this additional
staffing the recreation program at CHI Centers can expand and provide
vacation planning for the agency's residential program and increase
community excursions.
